Power BI and Business Intelligence

MVP v1.0 Released

FP&A-oriented sales-performance analytics demonstration using Microsoft AdventureWorks sample data to turn dimensional sales information into executive decision support.

My responsibilities

This interactive portfolio demonstration shows how operational sales information can be shaped into an executive and FP&A-oriented reporting experience. The report uses Microsoft AdventureWorks sample/demo data and is presented as a public demonstration rather than a client or production financial system.

FP&A sales performance analytics for clearer management reporting.

Operational transaction data alone does not give executives and finance leaders a concise view of revenue, gross profit, gross margin, orders, average order value, trends, product performance, territory performance, or comparison-period movement. This demonstration shows how a dimensional sales dataset can become interactive management reporting and decision-support analytics.

Business context

Leaders need performance information organized around business questions rather than raw transaction detail. The reporting experience is designed to support executive review of KPIs, trends, product and territory performance, and favorable or unfavorable variances.

Strategic objective

Create an interactive Power BI analytical experience that combines Executive Overview, product analysis, territory analysis, Variance Analysis, and detail-oriented exploration using Microsoft AdventureWorks sample data.

FP&A Sales Performance Dashboard v2

Interactive Power BI portfolio demonstration using Microsoft AdventureWorks sample/demo data. The public Publish-to-Web report does not require visitor sign-in.

Five connected responsibilities, presented at the level public evidence supports.

01

Business Leadership

Defined the decision-support objectives of the dashboard, selected the executive KPIs to surface, and structured the reporting experience around management questions instead of raw operational data.

02

Financial Planning

Applied FP&A-oriented management-reporting concepts through revenue, gross-profit, gross-margin, order, average-order-value, performance-variance, and comparison-period analysis without representing the AdventureWorks sales data as a complete general ledger.

03

Product Leadership

Defined the dashboard scope, organized analytical pages, prioritized executive KPIs, designed interactive comparison behavior and analytical workflows, and planned a path for broader financial analytics as the portfolio work evolves.

04

Technical Leadership

Designed the dimensional analytical model, DAX measure architecture, reusable comparison-period logic, disconnected selectors, dynamic KPI behavior, and report-layer presentation; also governed the public demonstration's integration into the portfolio website.

05

Engineering Execution

Implemented report pages, DAX measures, dynamic comparison logic, KPI cards, trend visualizations, variance visuals, interactive slicer behavior, and applicable SVG KPI sparklines; tested analytical results and integrated the public report into the Next.js portfolio.

Executive KPIs, dynamic comparisons, and interactive performance investigation.

Executive Overview

Revenue, gross profit, gross margin, orders, and average order value are presented with trend visualization, dynamic KPI presentation, comparison indicators, sparkline-style KPI visuals, interactive filtering, and period-based analysis.

Comparison-Period Analysis

DAX-driven comparison logic supports Prior Year, Prior Period, Prior Month, and Prior Quarter analysis so performance movement can be reviewed in context.

Variance Analysis

Revenue, gross-profit, gross-margin, order, and average-order-value variance views support favorable and unfavorable performance interpretation across selected periods.

Product and Territory Analysis

Interactive analysis supports investigation of product categories and sales territories alongside revenue trends and comparison-period movement.

Interactive Reporting

Date range, comparison period, territory, and product-category filtering help users move from executive KPI review into more focused analytical exploration.

A dimensional sales model shaped for executive decision support.

Microsoft AdventureWorks sample data is organized around established dimensions and Internet Sales fact data, then presented through a Power BI experience designed for executive, finance, and business-leader review. The public dashboard demonstrates the reporting layer and analytical interaction rather than a live enterprise ERP or general-ledger integration.

Comparison logic makes movement easier to interpret.

The Variance Analysis experience combines date range, comparison period, territory, and product-category filtering with revenue, gross-profit, gross-margin, order, and average-order-value movement. Its comparison engine supports Prior Year, Prior Period, Prior Month, and Prior Quarter perspectives.

A focused Power BI model for dynamic performance reporting.

The analytical design uses Microsoft AdventureWorks sample data, Date, Customer, Geography, Product, Product Category, Product Subcategory, Sales Territory, and Internet Sales fact data. DAX measures and disconnected selectors or parameters support dynamic KPI presentation and comparison-period behavior while keeping the public explanation at an appropriate portfolio level.

Active portfolio and capability-development work

The public report currently includes an Executive Overview and substantial Variance Analysis experience. It is an intentionally public portfolio demonstration using Microsoft AdventureWorks sample/demo data and remains subject to continued expansion.

This is not presented as client data, a production customer financial system, or a complete financial-statement reporting solution.

Need clearer performance reporting and decision support?

This portfolio demonstration shows how business questions, dimensional modeling, KPI design, Power BI reporting, and a practical web presentation can work together to support executive and finance-oriented analysis.
